About the Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast
The Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast was opened by Kimiko and Junji Horita in 1969. The two still run the B&B today, with a little help from their three daughters (and many grandchildren).
For over 50 years, we have welcomed guests from around the world to our little seaside home, where adventurers can still experience the old Japan.
We are across the street from Okazaki beach, where you can fish off the pier, take a swim, have a BBQ picnic, ride a bike, or simply enjoy the scenery as boats small and large pass by our namesake lighthouse.
Some time ago, a poet took a liking to our bed and breakfast and wrote us a poem.
Since then, he has become one of many friends we welcome every year.
Below is an English translation of his poem.
How I Felt at Todai
by Ichimu Nagata
In the pure darkness of the ocean
The lighthouse burns
Like the light in my heart.
In the strong currents of the Naruto Kaikyo
The seamen find safety
By the light of the lighthouse
Receiving each guest from every background
with the fullest heart,
That is our home,
the Minshuku Todai.
